Nothing like a Tuesday morning gut punch. But if I only gave you pats on the back, I’d be leading you into the rocks, and I want you to win. Win massively in this game of writing and life.

So… What currency matters the most in the modern era of screenwriting?

I really want to tell you it’s caliber of material. Craft. Movie ideas.

But I made a vow to always tell you the truth. Here goes nothing…

Today’s currency is Attention.

They used to say a great script would always find a home, with enough patience, and hard work. That the industry is like sharks when it comes to killer script. They feast, and see red. Not anymore. You can have the next Chinatown on your desktop, and die with it there. Lost, in the digital archives.

Sad? Yes. Scary? Yes-Yes.

Luckily, there’s many ways to garner attention now. And if you do, your top-notch material can get seen, made, and you can go on to live the blessed life you deserve.
