The WGA strikes commences at midnight tonight & the industry will be effectively on PAUSE. It’s best we address the elephant in the room, as most of you (my dear readers) are writers yourself. Writers with insane work ethics, original stories, belief in yourselves and passion for the craft. My last post was about how you must ignore the noise of the industry, ignore what’s happening, ignore the cruel and unusual odds of making it.

You don’t make it as a screenwriter based on rhyme reason or statistics.

You make it in spite of those things; by trusting that thing that beats below your chest, or the feeling in the pit of your stomach. Intuition prevails in this town. The storytellers who are at bat the most, usually are the ones who hit the grand slam. Discipline and consistency are the way of the writer.

Tonight, right at midnight, out of a bad fairy tale, the strike will officially be in effect. As a very recent WGA member myself, it’s a strange and unpleasant situation to be in, extremely complex, and ultimately, writers deserve fair deals (obviously), but also, let us hope that negotiations going swimmingly, because if the industry is shut down too long, there are no opportunities at all. For anyone. No new breakthroughs, no new voices, no nothing.

BUMMER. BUZZKILL. SHITTTTT.

Actually, it only really sucks, if your eggs are ALL in one basket.
