3 Things need to happen to sell a script w/o an Agent
And no, a pitch deck isn't amongst the list.
Selling a script isn’t rocket science.
Though it can feel like it at times.
Three elements need to occur (and by occur, I mean You, dear reader, need to make them happen).
Short, sweet, and to the point because it’s windy, I’m hangry, and I want to see you become a mogul A-list writing machine:
Write a script with a marketable title, an idea/premise that can be understood in one line, and properly execute all 92 pages. I repeat, if your ideas can not be pitched simply, it stands very little chance of selling, as most companies and producers need to be pitched on the idea before reading the material.
Make an exceptional creative relationship with a producer who has a track record and continues to work with the same one or two companies, regularly.
If the producer has a credit from a while ago (ten years back), and hasn’t done anything in awhile, there’s a good chance even if they like your material, they won’t be able to move the needle. That being said, sometimes it is worth signing an exclusive option with them as long as it is under 6 months.
